2020-2021 Game 38: San Diego Gulls vs Tucson Roadrunners

In the second game of the back to back Jacob Perreault and Olle Eriksson Ek were returned from the Taxi Squad while Lukas Dostal and Max Golod replaced them. Alex Dostie also returned to the lineup to see his first action since the 24th of March.

The Roadrunners had possibly the best chance of the period when Michael Carcone beat the entire Gulls five man unit with speed, came in on Olle Eriksson Ek and hit the post.

San Diego then had some much needed practise on the Power Play as they had back to back to back opportunities but again could not convert. They did look much much better on the third and final instance, coming close to opening the games scoring as a net-front scrum resulted after Ivan Prosvetov had trouble handling a shot through traffic.

Andrew Agozzino dropped a shoulder on Michael Carcone on an obviously clean hit but was called for boarding. He was given an extra for roughing on the play on the scuffle that resulted afterward. Tucson showed the Gulls how it was done by opening the scoring with the man advantage. An unfortunate play as BO Groulx lost an edge, allowing Jan Janik to skate around him and on net, getting a hard wrist shot by Eriksson Ek near side. 1-0 Tucson.

The Roadrunners double their lead when Tyler Steenbergen beat Olle Eriksson Ekk five hole on a partial break in the final minute of the period on a goal that the rookie goaltender would love to have back. The Gulls heading to the first intermission down by two and shots relatively even. 11-10 for the Gulls.

San Diego almost got one right back in the opening seconds as the Agozzino line caught Posvetov out of his net but hit the post on the glorious opportunity. Michael Carcone then took the puck the other way and got a pass across the front of Eriksson Ek where Josh Wilkins was allowed to collect his own rebound after a point blank save from the Gulls rookie goaltender. Josh Mahura failing to tie this man up in front and allowing the Roadrunners to take a 3-0 lead.

The Roadrunners were awarded another Power Play as Kodie Curran was deemed to have hooked Michael Carcone on a breakaway and scored once again to make it 4-0.

It was at this point I quit watching the game in protest and switched to watching the Ducks game instead.

Olle Eriksson Ekk was yanked after the fourth goal and Jeff Glass let in another three in the middle period.

I watched parts of the third with the game on mute and in the background of the Ducks game – the Gulls controlled action for most of the period from what I could see, getting two goals from Alex Limoges.

Post Game Notes

That Was Awful

That is all I have to say. Nothing good to stay about this game whatsoever. Not one single positive note to take from it all. Well ok maybe the third period was better from the brief glimpses I saw and Alex Limoges looked good scoring those goals but that’s it.
